I was twice brought up on discipline charges during law school for “acting in a manner unbecoming of a lawyer.” Once for vomiting into a law school bathroom sink and passing-out on the floor in the library stacks, and another time for urinating and passing-out in the law school’s entryway when I was missing my access card. Fortunately, both times, the dean of students, a large, failure of a woman, let me off the hook. My firm used to provide every associate with a $30 meal card each week, valid at any of the two dozen fast-food/quick-service restaurants in our building’s immediate area. This perk was rescinded during our first wave of cutbacks, but I don’t think many associates noticed the change, we were in the habit of eating expensive lunches at “real” restaurants. continue reading »
