When the idea for this story first came to me, I was sitting in a coffee shop with several friends talking about the inconsistencies of life, and the curve balls thrown in our experiences. A buddy was sharing a personal account of triumph and failure when I suddenly remembered a touching story a friend had told me years ago about her redirection in life. She realized the path she had been on led to an even better one that she never could have imagined unless she had failed with the initial, aborted one. When your girlfriend asks you to take a lie detector test, the relationship can be readily classified as dead. If you lied about whatever she thinks you lied about, and it takes a lie detector to get the truth out, there will be no forgiveness. And if, by some stroke of luck, you pass the test, her extreme lack of trust forces you to end the relationship. I would like to preface this article by saying that my parents raised me to always be kind to others, and when the situation allows, to sacrifice myself for their well-being. Through this, and amongst other values, they hoped to instill a set of morals and ethics within me that would shape the person I would become.
