Rocket’s Favorite Albums: Elliott Smith – New Moon 6

I may be breaking character a bit writing this article, but its worth it to give an analysis of such a stellar record. I used to work for a radio station down here in Texas, and I wrote album reviews pretty frequently. I only really wrote about newer albums though, given that the radio station had an interest in pushing the new stuff it would play. The reviews were enjoyable, and because I like music, and you guys might also like music, I decided to start reviewing some of my favorites for this site from time to time.  continue reading »

The Man in the High Castle 1

First off, let me say that I’ve never even read a book review, much less written one. I have a tendency to subscribe to the school of thought that books are about how the reader experiences them and the experience differs from person to person, so it seems a bit incongruous to write what I think about a particular book as if my experience with/interpretation of it means anything in particular. But this is a book club after all, and, though I’ve also never been in a book club, I can’t imagine it working without talking about what everyone thinks. So I hope you guys read the book, and here goes: continue reading »

The Introduction 0

For someone who occasionally pretends to be a lover of the written arts (primarily when speaking with attractive females), I haven’t read very many novels. In an effort to correct this inexcusable defect, the Girl and I have teamed up to host a (lame) online book club. Basically, there is a list of books below and the dates we will review them. It would be a great ego boost if some of you come and discuss the books with us. continue reading »

Rag Sex: A Primer 19

This seems to be a taboo subject in all but the most drunken of bro conversations, but one that needs to be written on nonetheless. It is a precarious situation for all those who encounter it, and I think that it being shielded in secrecy prevents dialogue from taking place, making it difficult for those who find themselves in the situation to know exactly how they should proceed. continue reading »

Jack in the Box Introduces Delicious Menu Item, World Explodes 6

There are no Jack in the Box locations near my home. As such, I rarely have the privilege of consuming the slop they vigorously attempt to pass off as food. Further, as I’m on a post-breakup diet, I really have no business being anywhere near such a restaurant. Nevertheless, thanks to a business trip and a lonely late night, I found myself in the position to sample a new Jack in the Box menu item and – surprise – it was delicious. continue reading »

The Girl’s Guide to Buying Your Woman Gifts 16

I generally consider myself a fantastic gift giver, my normal strategy being to buy an embarrassingly expensive gift and get pissed off when the girl doesn’t meet my extreme expectations of gratitude. Obviously, since I don’t need any help buying gifts, this post is for the rest of you. Our female writer recommended gifts first based on your relationship status with the lady, and then gave a variety of options depending on your budget. Enjoy. continue reading »

Energy Drinks: A Gentleman’s Guide 10

It’s not especially late, but I am especially tweaked. While it is hard to write amongst 160’s EPICNESS from the past weeks, I have decided that this is an issue that many need guidance on. Guidance that I can perhaps give them. I should be finishing my essay about the privatization of Cochabamba, Bolivia’s municipal water supply, but instead, this site has dragged me back into it, like an old lover in town for the weekend. continue reading »

Tasteless 43

Benjamin Kaplon-Olson probably doesn’t deserve to be made fun of – but I’m still pissy about my breakup and insist on posting random, hateful crap. Consider this the companion piece to the Rocket’s Top Five Reasons Being a Lawyer Sucks as Benjamin is a graduate of the Cornell Law School and is now living in Portland, where he spends his days striving to be a “true Renaissance lawyer.” continue reading »
